iTunes for Windows lets you connect and manage Apple devices to a Windows computer.

iTunes for Windows is something that most iPhone-using Windows fans consider a necessary evil. He wants to become your default player. Once installed, you’ll have Apple app support (32-bit and 64-bit), Apple mobile device support, Apple software update, Bonjour (ugh), and one more… oh yeah, iTunes. It also includes at least one startup element and several processes. All I want is to control my playlist, but Apple wants to take over your computer.

You’d think it would all be worth it, but to be honest, I’ve always found the interface easy to use as long as you just follow the basics. Anything else can be complicated and requires learning how to use it. iCloud always requires installation, and you’ll have to authorize your phone every time you connect it without iTunes for Windows. I’m banging my head on the table as I write this. But I updated my playlist, that’s all.

The iPhone can now do most of what you need without iTunes, so you don’t need or need it unless you want to manage movies, music, etc. Other third party programs do this, but I’ve rarely seen them work . as well as iTunes for Windows, even with all its shortcomings.
