Open source

Open source software is software with source code that anyone can review, modify or improve. Programs released under this license may be used free of charge for personal and commercial purposes. Free to play

This license is usually used for video games and that allows users to download and play the game for free. Basically, the product is offered Free to Play (Freemium) and the user can decide whether he wants to pay money (Premium) for additional features, services, virtual or physical goods that extend the functionality of the game. In some cases, advertisements may be displayed to users.

Demo

Demo programs have a limited functionality free, but there is a charge for an advanced set of features or the removal of advertisements from the program’s interface. In some cases, all features are disabled until a license is purchased. Demos are usually not time-limited (like trial software), but functionality is limited.

Trial

Trial software allows the user to evaluate the software for a limited time. After that trial period (usually 15 to 90 days) the user can decide whether to purchase the software or not. Although most trial software products are time-limited only, some also have feature limitations.

Typically, commercial software or games are produced to sell or serve a commercial purposes.
