Big Sur is the most innovative version of macOS in recent years, so it is not surprising that Apple dropped support for quite a few old Macs in the 11.0 update. Fortunately, if you really want to run this operating system on an older Mac, you still have a choice.

Mending Sur It is an intuitive application that will guide you step by step to create a bootable USB to install or update your operating system. For now, you can only update from Catalina because the clean install option is not available.
You need to choose an update track, but the rest of the process is mostly automated. The application downloads the Set Vars Tool, Kext patches, and the macOS installer itself. Just insert a large enough USB drive and Patched Sur will create your installation media.
When the USB drive is ready, go ahead and hold the Option (⌥) Restart the Mac. Then, select the boot drive you created and reinstall macOS.
To update your installation, you can use the post-installation tool. It will download the latest software package and create a bootable USB that you can use to reinstall macOS to get the latest version.
Since this is an early beta version of the project, there will be problems. Some older Macs will have difficulty running Big Sur, so you may want to check this list of supported Macs before starting.
