Sprites are computer entities. They can appear in two-dimensional, three-dimensional, or animated forms, and are used to represent one of the architectural foundations of every game graphic in the 80s or 90s.

Genie IlluminatorAs the name suggests, it is a powerful map editor for rendering dynamic lighting and other interesting effects related to lighting.

Just a few clicks, you can add interesting effects to your sprites

Thanks to its intuitive and user-friendly interface, using the application is a simple process, but also thanks to the smooth operation of all its controls.

The top toolbar is particularly useful because it enables you to open and save projects, add or delete sprites, undo or redo the last operation, and publish the final project.

There shouldn’t be much challenge to use this app, because you have to drag and drop your sprite from the Finder onto the loading panel of SpriteIlluminator. In the upper left corner of its main window, move the light source to create the desired effect. Use the interesting built-in Collection of effects and tools, and then click the “Publish” button on the top toolbar.

Customize lighting effects with the help of the global light panel

Under the Sprite panel, you can find the Global light panel, which is very convenient because it allows you to change the Z value of the light source, change the intensity and brightness of the ambient light, the light source and the light color of the ambient light, and, automatically rotate the light source.

More importantly, because some sprite colors treat light differently, the effect may be difficult to see. The application provides you with four display modes, namely texture, luminous surface, luminous texture, and normal map.

Bundled with a comprehensive and versatile collection of tools and effects

Using the global light panel can bring some cool-looking results to your sprites, but with the help of the SpriteIlluminator tool, most of the magic can be achieved, located on the right side of its main window.

In the “Effects” panel, you can use the bevel tool to help you add volume to the sprite, and use the emboss tool to easily add volume or make the structure pop out of the sprite.

The drawing tool is powerful because it allows you to raise or lower a part of the sprite, the angle brush has two modes (continuous and discrete) to help you change the direction of the sprite and add brushes, and the structure tool allows you to apply structure and Surface effect.

Give your elves the sparkle and attention they deserve

All in all, SpriteIllustrator is an easy-to-use but powerful dynamic lighting and special effects editor, it has the potential to transform any sprite from boring to almost lifelike.
