The built-in macOS emoji picker is very useful, but it’s far from a perfect tool. It’s not as snappy as it could be, and if you don’t use the right terminology, it doesn’t show you what you’re looking for at all.

Mumu Try to fix these issues and completely replace the native emoji picker. It comes with an extensive vocabulary of synonyms to make it easier to find what you’re looking for, and it starts instantly without unnecessary startup animations.

Find those elusive emoji

The native tools use keywords to identify graphs, but they are nowhere near as widely integrated as this application. Plenty of synonyms should make it easy to find any emoji, even if you don’t remember its name or even its description.

Essentially, Mumu allows you to use natural language to find emojis. Just type the first word that comes to mind when considering a particular image, and the results should include one or more suitable results.

Fast and very easy to use

Another major advantage this app offers over native utilities is speed. The default emoji picker opens an animation that, while brief, can be a hindrance if you use a lot of emoji.With Mumu, when you press ⇧⌘Space, the selection window pops up immediately.

Just like the native tool, this app remembers your favorite options and lists them at the top of the window when you open the picker. It’s the same functionality you get in a standard utility, so there’s nothing new here.

Built with privacy in mind

If you’re concerned that Apple will analyze the emoji you choose, Mumu at least takes that worry out of the way. Everything is handled locally, and the only thing developers can get from you is your feedback.

While it’s not a groundbreaking app, Mumu is clearly superior to the native macOS emoji picker. This can be very beneficial if you use a lot of emoji every day, you can try it out and see if you think it’s worth the money.
