Once launched, the background puts a small menu in your status bar where you can choose the monitor you want to use the tool on (for multiple screens) and the theme you want to activate.

Note that the background also has a widget that displays detailed information about system performance in the lower left corner of the screen. On the other side, you can place a small time widget.

The background will update the appearance of the screen in real time based on your configuration, and through preferences you can choose to use the same configuration on all monitors. This area also enables you to hide the application’s Dock icon to avoid unnecessary clutter.

Adjust the theme’s appearance and behavior to suit your needs

In Background Preferences, you can access configuration panels for each of the six desktop themes. For iTunes themes, you can specify which artwork should be used, if you want to see song information or related videos, etc.

Likewise, you can adjust the depth effects generated by the Parallax theme, the source and playback settings for video or quartz themes, or customize the appearance of time labels, both as a theme and as a widget.

Last but not least, you can personalize the appearance of system themes and widgets by deciding whether you want to stack the gauges vertically, how smoothly the pointer moves, gauge units and limits, and more.
