As the name might suggest, Westwood is an emulator of the original Xbox console. Being able to play more than half the games for one of the most important consoles in history is no small feat. In fact, while the app is still in development, according to the developers, it can play about 60 percent of Xbox games well, with another 2 percent functioning exactly like the original console.
As always, the main problem with these programs is being able to get the original console firmware to install for use with the emulator. In this case, you need to add BIOS files, boot ROM and video game files. Video game images should be extracted from your original disc using 3rd party software. The EEPROM file is loaded by default. If you choose this setting, the app can update itself to the latest version.
xemu advertises gamepad support, state saving, system linking, and rendering scaling. This means that if your video game files work in the emulator, you’ll be able to get the full Xbox experience. Gamepad support doesn’t necessarily mean only the original Xbox controller. Instead, any controller will work fine with this program as long as the button scheme is the same as on the original Xbox gamepad.
