DSpeech is a TTS (Text to Speech) application with integrated ASR (Automatic Speech Recognition) functionality. It is able to read the spoken words aloud and then select the ideal sentences to be spoken based on the user’s voice responses. The software can then communicate these selected suggestions through a Computer Enhanced User Interface (CELI) system that is capable of interacting with a computer via a mouse, keyboard, or any other pointing device. Users can then communicate directly with the software by speaking a command that is typically entered on first use. It’s like the on-screen speech recognition assistant prompts you every time you type a word.

This technology allows you to speak in multiple different voices at the same time, providing a more personalized and immersive user experience. DSpeech has two different voices, one called the “instructor” voice that provides spoken instructions, and a second voice called the “sighted” or user-friendly voice. A student or tutor can change their voice using a number of options available, for example a student can be asked to speak in their own voice or another instructor’s voice, and a friendly voice can be changed to say something like ‘How do you do that?’

DSpeech can be downloaded from the Internet and installed on a PC. You may need to set it up first before it will work properly. Instructions for installing the voice application are provided on the website. To get started, you just need to type “dspeech” into the search box and follow the instructions to download the voice acting software.
