A useful feature on Windows (not on macOS) is that you can click the time in the system tray to open a small calendar. On macOS, this opens your widget, and while you can add a calendar to it, it’s not easy to interact with.

calendar Designed to add this feature to your Mac as an alternative to the native date display in macOS. When you click it, you can access a small calendar that lists all your events, as well as shortcuts to the full calendar and reminders.

Simple menu bar calendar

After launching this app, you should probably go ahead and disable the native date display, leaving only the clock in the menu bar. Put it next to the calendar and you’ll have both the time and date, the latter also including the calendar.

Then, whenever you want to see the calendar, just click on the date. Events are highlighted and you can hover over any of them to see more details. You can also open the full calendar and reminders using the shortcuts at the bottom of the window.

Looks nice and easy to configure

The UI is well designed, but I recommend increasing its transparency a bit to help it blend better with the rest of the system UI. You can also make it slightly larger, remove the date or icon from the menu bar, and choose your preferred date format.

A useful feature is the ability to pin the calendar to the desktop. If you need to check some dates while using another app, it’s best not to open it again when you click away.

As expected, you can choose which calendars to include if you just need to highlight certain events.
