Life After Magic for Windows is free fantasy visual novel with magical girls named Guardians. After saving the world several times, the world has calmed down and they are no longer needed. Y2K is coming up with parties scheduled for the New Year when a new villain appears. Alternative visual novels you can play include ERROR143, Purrgatory, and Don’t Toy With Me.

Gameplay involves reading history and dialogue with multiple options along the way. A game developed by a full team will take you several hours to complete. In the end, you will need to make the right choice to defeat your enemies and save the day.

Magic is no longer needed

You are one of the heroes formerly known as Guardians in Life After Magic. Once you were needed to help save the world, but all the villains are defeated. You no longer need your powers and find work, dropping out of school to fight your enemies. As Y2K’s New Year’s Eve party approaches, things go wrong and you need to deal with a new rival who used to be a hero. It’s getting battle of ethics and morals.

Gameplay elements

The main gameplay aspect of Life After Magic is that reading through dialogue. There are several choices to make along the way, including answering specific questions. It won’t have much impact on the plot until you get to the end where you have to deal with the villain.

Visuals and sound

Graphics in Life After Magic consist of three parts. The first is a hazy pixelated background in a cartoon style. Secondly, you have characters that appear when they speak and have much better design. Finally, there are a few animations and effects from time to time. While it may not be a superb performance at times, it does tie in with history.

Ready to save the day

Life After Magic shows what happens when magical heroes no longer have to fight for their lives in order to live. The girls dropped out of school to fight them and now they need to find work to support their lifestyle.

It’s an interesting story with some sense of reality, showing a different side of the characters. The graphics could be better, but that’s enough to intrigue.
