Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup is the sequel to the excellent Dungeon Crawl, a modern “roguelike” inspired by concepts from classic genres such as Moria and NetHack.

This, like the original Dungeon Crawl, has dozens of different races and classes when it comes to character creation. Choose from a variety of races and archetypes, including Demigods, Nagas, Ogre Wizards, Orcs, Trolls, Humans, Forest Elves and Dwarves.

The biggest difference between Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup and the games that inspired it is the much more accessible interface. The game can be controlled in exactly the same way as more traditional “roguelikes”, but it also incorporates full use of the mouse, allowing some actions to be performed in a more intuitive way.

The rest of Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup is exactly what you want: flawless turn-based combat, permanent death for traditional characters, an excellent magic system, a wide variety of enemies and traps, and a story. It’s simple and will take you through dungeons for hours.

Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup has won numerous roguelike festival awards for good reason. It can be a little difficult at first for those unfamiliar with the genre, but once you get the basics of the game, it’s a great experience.
