It’s not always obvious whether the text on your website or app can be easily read by all. That’s why there are guidelines like WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines), which help developers design content that is accessible to anyone.
Color Contrast Analyzer is a fairly simple Electron-based application that helps you check color contrast to ensure it complies with WCAG standards. It’s very easy to use and provides useful information to help you figure out why the text on your page might not be ideal.
Simply pick and analyze colors
Usually, the only thing you need to do is open the app and choose a foreground (text) and background color. The app window is always on top, so it’s easy to use when you need to pick a color from another window. Hotkeys can also be used for this purpose.
If you’re just deciding on colors, you can provide color codes in various formats or define them using sliders. A small preview of the text on the selected background will be displayed, along with the WCAG results.
Verify WCAG Compliance
In the lower part of the main window you can see the resulting contrast and the effect of the selected color when evaluated with the available guides. It checks the contrast of regular text, large text, and graphic objects with the background.
If you fail for any reason, you can come up with details as to why the chosen color was not appropriate. You can then tweak them in the same UI until you get a passing grade.
Great tool for developers
As the internet has become a necessity in our lives, accessibility is more important than ever, and apps like Color Contrast Analyzer make it easy to ensure your content is accessible to everyone.
