Compared to other operating systems, macOS has some quirks, one of which is the way it handles applications and windows. Closing the last window of an app will not usually quit the app itself; it will continue to run in the background, just without the active window.

Quit the application when the window is closed

Alternatively, Swift Quit can be configured so that it closes the app when any window is closed. While this feature may be convenient for certain use cases, it is not recommended for most people.
Add exception and close windowless applications
You may have to exclude some apps to avoid inconvenience. For example, if an application starts with a popup open but has no other active windows, it will quit when you close the popup. Thankfully, you can easily add as many exceptions as you need.
Of course, since some apps don’t have an active window, the normal functionality of Swift Quit won’t work. However, you can manually close all windowless applications from the menu bar. You can also access the app’s settings from here.
