Firefox’s bookmarking utility can cover most of the everyday essentials, but if you want to expand the field, you can give scrap yard a try — a Firefox extension that provides several new features for more complex bookmarks.

Replace the default BM system

After adding the extension to your browser, the panel containing the default bookmark locations will be taken up by the new application. However, the changes are not permanent, as the old BM bar can be restored via the cycle header (combo menu at the top of the BM sidebar).

Store page fragments without tagging the entire site

Separating short sections from full articles or large pages of content is a cool feature Scrapyward uses. If you only want to save a small part of the content and want to avoid having to relocate it every time you go back, just select the text and bookmark it. PDF documents can also be saved as bookmarks.

The entry will still show the website name, but when visiting it, only orphaned text will be displayed for quick and efficient backtracking.

Create a new folder and add a comment

Even though this functionality is also tied to the default BM, Scrapyard seems to have a very simple way of doing it. With the extension icon you can create as many folders as you want and rename them in seconds.

Additionally, comments can be added to each entry.The annotations menu is independent and can be accessed by right-clicking on the entry and going to open note.

Share to Dropbox or Pocket

Dropbox and Pocket account owners can send their favorite items directly to cloud storage. This is an extra level of backup for folks keen to have multiple copies of their content.
