While in theory the desktop shouldn’t be affected in any way, sometimes it happens, which can be frustrating if you’re working on something important.
restore window position is a tool designed to handle this specific problem, as it detects connected and disconnected displays and restores them to their last known position.

After a quick and smooth installation, you can access the app from the system tray. The tool has no interface but allows you to configure two options regarding its functionality. More precisely, you can set how often the app takes snapshots of your desktop and how often it saves screenshots.

The developer warns that the tool is still in its early stages, so it may not be possible to restore all windows to their original size and position. Hopefully this will be fixed in the future.

One way to try to find a missing window is to use the Alt+Tab command, which will allow you to switch between all open windows.
