Live11 is an optimized tiny11 image that was designed to fit on a 4GB VHD, and runs entirely on RAM. Since it’s only 4GB, this means it can fit on DVD, possibly making this the first Windows 11 live DVD.

This was made possible thanks to the grub4dos project, as well as the SVBus driver.

As of now, this is just a proof of concept, one that has quite a few issues, such as:

• It only boots on older MBR/BIOS devices. This will be fixed in a later release.
• Virtualbox VMs don’t work because it restarts after the “install devices” phase. And because this is a non-persistent image, all progress is lost, and as such it’s on a startup loop. However, VMware and Hyper-V work.
• It requires 8 GB of RAM. Although the image only uses 4 GB of RAM, it needs twice to load.

But nevertheless, I think that the ability to run full-fledged Windows 11 from a DVD is an interesting novelty.
