With so many movies and TV shows being released all the time, it can be hard to find them and keep track of what you want to watch.

chronicle is an open source application that leverages the power of TMDb (The Movie Database) to provide you with all the information you need in one concise package. It helps you find titles, manage your watchlist, and notifies you when new content is available to view.

Since you start with a database of movies/shows and no personal information, you need to figure out how you want to use the application and then customize the local database to suit your needs.

You can add movies to your watchlist, create lists to organize movies and shows, check what you’ve already watched, and mark your favorites. While this is easy in most cases, it can be annoying for shows you haven’t quite caught up on since you can’t just mark a specific number of episodes as watched.

All the information you get is provided directly from TMDb, so the content is as comprehensive as you’d expect. Once you add content to your watchlist, you’ll receive recommendations based on your preferences and be notified when new episodes or movies are available to watch.

The user interface is simple but functional, but it’s sometimes difficult to navigate the large number of categories, and content doesn’t always load as quickly as you’d like.

Today, there are many Web services that provide similar functionality, including TMDb. However, nothing is more convenient than a simple app, especially when it comes with features like desktop notifications and menu bar integration.

Cronica still needs improvements, but it’s already a useful tool if you’re currently struggling to organize a watchlist. It’s also free and open source, and works on every Apple device you own.
