Python is a comprehensive environment that helps advanced computer users (such as programmers or developers) test or explore various features. Although Python comes with a powerful interactive interpreter that allows users to run tests without creating additional documentation on the target machine, it has some limitations in terms of user interaction with the software.

The three core components of IPython include a highly interactive Python shell, a decoupled two-process communication model, and an interactive parallel computing architecture. The interactive shell provides users with tab completion, system shell access, object introspection, a specific command system for additional functionality, and command history retrieval between sessions.

It can also be embedded and used as an interpreter for other programs. The shell can be invoked from another program, providing the user with many possibilities, especially debugging.

Whenever a user starts the console, two processes are started: the kernel and a Qt-based client that can send/receive commands to the kernel. The decoupled two-process model allows users to connect multiple clients to the same kernel, even if the clients and kernel are on different systems. Users can choose to skip creating a new kernel and connect to the most recently accessed kernel when launching the console.
