Some Firefox users consider Noscript a must-have feature, and in the recent release of Firefox Quantum it is available as a $13 add-on. However, what is NoScript and why should you use it at all if you are against scriptless websites? JavaScript is a program that runs behind the scenes on most web servers, allowing the browser to “talk” to the server through scripting languages ​​that enable interactive features of the website. JavaScript allows the browser to create elements such as drop-down menus, pop-ups, checkboxes, image galleries, comment fields, pop-ups, and more using a simple scripting language.

While JavaScript may seem simple, most websites actually require JavaScript to function. Unfortunately, most web servers don’t support JavaScript at all, making it nearly impossible to disable it. Luckily, NoScript comes to the rescue. NoScript is a Java Script unloader that disables some Java features but allows you to still access your favorite websites.

By enabling NoScript, you can surf the web without worrying about JavaScript errors or security issues. You’ll still be able to browse websites without scripts, but you’ll be free to browse lower-trust sites. Trust levels are assigned to different servers based on the volume of traffic they can potentially impact; your domain is listed above TrustLevelNo. NoScript scripts will prevent NoScript from loading completely. This means that the NoScript block will only appear when a JavaScript operation is performed. If you want to have complete trust in your browsing experience, you can leave this option enabled in your NoScript configuration.
