Keeping track of multiple email accounts often means you have to rely on a desktop client, which also offers support for viewing entire message content, replying, organizing messages into folders, and more.

Howard is a small alternative solution that only notifies you when a new message arrives on one of your accounts. The application also allows you to open the corresponding email service in your default web browser and can launch Mail or Outlook applications.

Howard immediately prompts you to connect to a Microsoft email account, but through the app’s preferences, you can also configure the app to scan Gmail or Yahoo accounts.

Keep in mind that the Outlook, Gmail, and Yahoo accounts that Howard monitors can be changed instantly: the app will launch an authorization window for each service, and you’ll need to provide the correct credentials.

Howard can also be configured to monitor IMAP accounts and comes with a predefined server configuration to make the setup process easier: it includes default IMAP server addresses and corresponding port numbers for Outlook, Gmail, Yahoo, and GMX.

In the Howard status bar menu, you can view the number of unread messages associated with a specific service. Note that the application uses one row for all configured emails so that you can open all emails in your default browser with a single mouse click.

Although Howard can open the Mail and Outlook applications, it does not display the corresponding utility’s unread message counter.

For your convenience, Howard can be configured to automatically open upon login, and you can adjust the refresh interval (can be from 30 seconds to 120 minutes) and the audio alert you want to hear when new emails arrive.

Best of all, Howard is a simple and efficient alternative for quickly accessing various email services when you receive new messages, without having to configure an account in a full-featured desktop client.

The Howard app works with Outlook, Gmail, Yahoo, and GMX services, and also allows you to launch mail and Outlook applications from the status bar.
