Scientists say US may be free from coronavirus in late September

The United States could finally be rid of the coronavirus at the end of September, and everyone can hope to leave the pandemic behind in December, according to a group of scientists in Singapore.
A mathematical model created by the Singapore University of Technology and Design allows scientists to predict the future of the virus using already confirmed case and death data from around the world.
Based on a “predictive monitoring” technique, the model captures global data which is converted into a bar graph. A curve at the top of the graph shows the path of the disease. At the end of April, forecasts showed that the United States would be virus-free by September 20 and the United Kingdom could see the end of the coronavirus on August 27.
Scientists at the university warned that their dates were not correct and that the predictions should not lead to the hasty end of security closures around the world.
“Too much optimism based on certain planned end dates is dangerous because it can relax our disciplines and controls and cause the virus to change,” they said.
