“Lato” means “summer” in Polish. In December 2010, the Lato family was published under the open source Open Font License by his foundry tyPoland, with support from Google.
In 2013-2014, the family was greatly expanded to cover 3000+ glyphs per style. The Lato 2.010 family now supports 100+ Latin-based languages, 50+ Cyrillic-based languages as well as Greek and IPA phonetics. In the process, the calculations and kerning of the family have been revised and four additional weights have been created.

The semi-rounded details in the letters give Lato a feeling of warmth, while the strong structure gives stability and seriousness. “Man and woman, serious but friendly. With the feeling of summer,” says Åukasz.
Lato consists of nine weights (plus corresponding italics), including a beautiful hairstyle. The Hairline should of course only be used in very large sizes. The Lato family now supports 100+ Latin-based languages, 50+ Cyrillic-based languages as well as Greek and IPA phonetics!
How to install Lato Font?
Download the zip file and extract it to a folder. In the folder you will see a list of all Lato font variants.
To install in Windows:
- Double-click one of the fonts, which opens the Windows font examples
- In that window you will see two buttons: “Print” and “Install”
- Press Install and the font will be ready to go on all applications (may need to restart the operating system or application depending on where you want to use it)
How to install in macOS:
- Double-click the font in the Finder window
- Click Install in the font preview window that opens
- The font will appear in the Font Book app and will be available for use in your apps
