Security that remains

Our file encryption works by taking your files, one by one at its discretion, transforming them into new files with a new file extension and securely wiping and deleting the original. Once the files are encrypted, they can be safely moved, copied, sent and stored anywhere, such as cloud storage, backup, email, local etc. The encryption always follows the file regardless of where it is located.

Many other encryption solutions create a special encrypted container or folder, and when you move or copy a file out of the container or folder, it is no longer encrypted. Operating system built-in encryption such as Windows Encrypting Filesystem (EFS), macOS FileVault or Linux LUKS also have similar limitations.

With our additional premium features, it remains easy to work with encrypted files, automatically decrypt them temporarily to edit, read, listen or view them with the standard application and securely re-encrypt them and delete the temporary ones afterwards.

No Internet, no servers

The software works completely locally on your own device. It never uses an Internet connection, not even for update checks! This may mean a little more work for you, but you know it’s for a good cause!

There are absolutely no servers used by the software that can be unavailable, removed or hacked. You always work offline with Xecrets Ez and Xecrets Cli, and that’s how we think it should be.

Encryption evolved

If you are familiar with AxCrypt[2]you will know that it has a long history of success in its field. You will find our version to be a great alternative to AxCrypt. It is based on the original code from AxCrypt[2] but has been reused, optimized for speed and rebuilt by the original author, with modern tools in a new cross-platform package for macOS, Windows and now Linux too!

Slimmer, leaner and more streamlined for desktop users for free, or with additional premium features at a low cost, as well as a brand new fully featured free open source command line tool for scripting and software integration by developers and advanced users! All 100% compatible with AxCrypt.

In addition to its file encryption software, Axantum is available for independent IT contracts, specializing in cryptography, performance optimization, high availability and high transaction systems, advanced debugging, and all that is hard and difficult within the .NET technology stack.

For historical reasons, we also keep available a modern prebuilt binary of the older version 1.7.x AxCrypt[2] software, recompiled with updated tools and renamed Xecrets File Classic. Finally, it’s a slightly different legacy, but still useful software and documents.

What’s new

A feature packed with major improvements, including plain text encryption and decryption from and to the clipboard, a password strength meter, smart password suggestions, and a host of convenience and ease of use improvements. Xecret’s Cli backend has seen major performance and security improvements by using the operating system’s native cryptography instead of the (almost) legacy BouncyCastle library. Plain text encryption and decryption is supported by Xecrets Cli using ASCII armor format, so this is also available from the command line.
