The original UK version of Utopia, Gillian Flynn’s conspiracy theory thriller, ran for two seasons. From Amazon adaptation / remake he does not have the same luck.

After a rather poor reception, Amazon announced that Utopia

there will be no second season. The news goes through the Hollywood Reporter, noting that it’s the end of a journey for the series that began in 2014, with an HBO pickup that didn’t work. And a concert as a director for David Fincher, which also didn’t work out. This show had a bad time.

The series, starring John Cusack, Sasha Lane, Rainn Wilson and others, certainly didn’t come out at the right time. As a sci-fi story about a global conspiracy surrounding a horrific pandemic, it sadly felt on the nose in a way that probably wasn’t very appealing to many viewers. The show was Gillian Flynn’s debut as a showrunner, having written the series for the UK version.

As THR points out, Amazon has plenty of other sci-fi and fantasy irons on fire, including a final season of The Expanse and its next version of Lord of the Rings. Utopia, it seems, just doesn’t fit on this list. There is always the British version.
