I didn't file my taxes because I was afraid of not being able to pay. Is it too late to file taxes for a $ 1,200 stimulus check now?

The Moneyist has received hundreds of stimulus check letters in the past seven days. Many of them concern people who file their 2018 or 2019 tax returns late. Here are five of those letters and an answer:

I was reluctant to file my taxes for 2018 and 2019 for fear of owing what I couldn't pay. Is it too late to be entitled to the first stimulus payment? If yes, what was the deadline for filing your taxes?

Dear Moneyist # 2,

I did not file my 2018 taxes because I had to collect all my tax documents (which were not in their place when we moved). I filed my taxes for 2019 in March, but my dunning check still says "processing". Will I continue to receive my stimulus check this year after the Internal Revenue Service finishes processing my 2019 taxes?

Jennifer

Dear Moneyist # 3,

I get social security. This is my only income, so I have not filed an income tax return. I receive my monthly payment by direct deposit. I have had the same bank account information for 15 years. However, I have not received my benefit from the CARES law.

Everyone I know has received payment, including social security. I even know people who have received paper checks. I have never been able to access the IRS tool. He always says, "No information available." There doesn't seem to be a way to get help from the IRS or SSA.

Where's my check?

Sandra

Dear Moneyist # 4,

I did not deposit taxes for 2018 and I did so for the first time on April 6, 2019. Up to now, I have not received my check from relaunch. Do you think this happened because I filed my taxes too late? I meet all IRS requirements.

Dear Moneyist # 5,

Two days ago, I filed my 2018 taxes and I still have to file my 2019 taxes. Is it too late to receive a stimulus test?

Dear deceased taxpayers,

First of all, you need to make sure that you qualify. The IRS sends $ 1,200 to people with adjusted gross annual income less than $ 75,000 and $ 2,400 to married couples who file taxes together and earn less than $ 150,000, plus $ 500 per eligible child.

The stimulus check is an advance payment of a refundable credit on your 2020 return, so the IRS will consider 2018 income tax returns if you have not yet filed your 2019 return. 39 have not filed your 2018 income tax return, it is not too late to file it now. However, you can face late fees.

The agency said it would continue to process stimulus checks throughout 2020 and, to help people, extended the deadline for filing tax returns for 2019 from April 15 to July 15. To date, more than 130 million stimulus checks have been deleted.

Noon on Wednesday was the deadline for Americans to submit their direct deposit information to the Internal Revenue Service, said the IRS. Checks mailed after the Wednesday deadline will arrive no later than the end of May.

Dispatches from a pandemic:Letter from New York: “New Yorkers wear colorful homemade masks, while nurses carry trash bags. When I hear an ambulance, I wonder if there is a coronavirus patient inside. Are there more 911 calls or do I notice each remote siren? "

Those who collect Social Security and do not work do not have to file an income tax return. The IRS will have these details on file. People who receive direct deposit checks are likely to receive their payments sooner than those who receive paper checks in the mail.

Obviously, this is another reminder to keep track of your taxes in order to avoid fees and any other legal issues that may arise later. The IRS is unlikely to have the manpower to audit people who have not testified, but no one wants the IRS on your case.

People who work at state tax offices work hard to process these payments. New unemployment claims have exceeded 36 million in recent weeks due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. They work hard to make sure people get their stimulus money.

Friday evening, the House of Democratic Representatives passed a $ 3 trillion coronavirus rescue law; Analysts say President Donald Trump will likely end up signing a new aid package next month or later after lengthy negotiations.

At the end of the line: If you don't receive your stimulus check this year, you will receive it next year. People can check the status of their stimulus payment here
