Interface and workspace
Krita has a user friendly interface. In the settings menu, you can choose a color theme, which toolbars and dockers you want to use, and edit keyboard shortcuts. Save a given set of dockers as a workspace and switch between them. The canvas can be easily rotated and mirrored. OpenGL canvas supports high bit depth monitors. There is a large set of options available to create a distraction-free canvas-only drawing mode.

Circle mode
Now it’s easy to create seamless textures and patterns. Press the “W” key while drawing to toggle rounding mode. The image will reference itself along the x and y axes. Keep drawing and watch all the links update instantly. No more awkward shifting to see how your image repeats. You can even paint over the edge and it will automatically start painting on top. This is one of those features that you should see for yourself.

Multiple brushes and blend modes
The brush engine is more than just a typical brush swatch with tweaked settings. Each brush engine has its own logic and behavior. Included engines: Pixel, Spot, Duplicate, Filter, Hairiness, Hatching, Texture, Chalk, Color Spot, Curve, Warp, Dynamics, Experiment (Alchemy), Mesh, Particles, Sketch, and Aerosol brushes. Brush settings can be saved as presets and shared. There is a staggering number of blend modes available. The blend modes are organized by category, and your favorites are kept at the top of the list.

Advanced selection and masking tools
Krita offers many ways to select parts of your canvas to edit. You can select with shapes such as rectangles and circles, color selection, select by polygon, select by color, select by bezier. You can add, remove or cross your selection. You can also make a selection based on the contents of a layer by context-clicking the layer and clicking “select opaque”. You can create the transparency layer separately or add it to an existing layer. This is a great tool for non-destructive changes.

Symmetry tools and drawing aids
Symmetry tools that go way beyond basic mirroring. Take full control of how many axles you need. Change the original center, angle, and smoothing options. Easily toggle the mirrored x and y buttons on the top toolbar. Drawing aids such as perspective grids and shapes with magnetic settings.

Filters and effects
Filters can be used directly on a layer or as filter masks or layers. The filter effect is previewed on the image itself. There are special effects like waves, oil paint and embossing. Also included are settings such as levels, brightness/contrast, and HSV. Additional tools that may be useful for selection, such as color to alpha channel and color transfer.

Layer and color management
Krita Portable has raster, vector, filter, program, group and file layers. Each layer has visibility, edit lock, transparency lock and alpha lock settings. Layers can be dragged to and from other applications. Vector layers support text, vector shapes, and filters for vector shapes. Krita supports the following color models for creating and image editing: RGBA, Gray, CMYKA, Lab, YCbCr, XYZ in 8-bit integer, 16-bit integer, 16-bit floating point, 32-bit floating point. Krita always uses color management.
