Perhaps quite surprisingly for everyone, Dungeons & Dragons is more popular today than it has ever been, in spite of the rise of the digital era and all the controversy surrounding the game a few decades ago. Hence, it would appear that people really enjoy gathering in groups and exploring dungeons together, which is why there are so many adventures and lore books available out there.

Acquire renowned D&D champions to fight for your side

Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms is a clicker game in which you get to defeat thousands of monsters without doing much of anything, given the fact that most of your time is spent looking at the screen and occasionally clicking to level-up your characters. However, there’s a lot more fun to be had if you are a fan of Dungeons & Dragons, because you can collect actual heroes from the lore, as well as powerful gear for them.

To begin with, you start with a single champion as you fight your way through wave after wave of nasty gnolls. Each kill provides you with gold, which in turn allows you to upgrade your hero’s damage and maybe acquire new abilities every now and again. Obviously, you can increase your party later on in the game, and you can unlock renowned champions from the world of D&D.

Use strategy to defeat difficult monster waves

Although this is still a fairly simple clicker game at its core, there are difficult sections that might require a bit of thought. Hence, one of the key gameplay aspects is the ability to use formation strategies, which means that you can carefully pick your champions, gear them with the appropriate items and arrange them on the battlefield in the desired formation in order to deal the maximum amount of damage.

Speaking of gear, most of it can be acquired by simply playing the game and defeating enemies, but there are also shortcuts you can take if you lack the patience. Thus, the game allows you to purchase treasure chests full of items, but they cost real money instead of in-game currency. Since this is not a multiplayer-based experience, there are no pay-to-win mechanics to fear, thankfully.

A different take on the clicker genre for a change

All in all, the Dungeons & Dragons elements make Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms a bit different than the rest of the titles in the genre, but the core elements are the same. Hence, it’s more a background activity than anything else, but then again it’s free of charge.
