MP3 Encoder is one of the better MP3 converters on the market, which has become crowded with tons of clones, especially in the media conversion category. Although the idea is simple – converting files to MP3 – this application offers a great amount of features and flexibility.

The converter enables you to change a variety of audio settings, such as method, bitrate, algorithm quality, stereo mode and sample rate, before encoding your audio and video files to MP3 using the LAME encoder. Because it uses this encoder, the app can also convert multiple files at once.

Working with MP3 Encoder is as simple as it gets, as expected from an audio converter. Simply drag and drop your audio or video files (such as 3GP, AAC, AIFF, FLAC, Apple Lossless, MP4, MOV and more) onto the main window and then make optional adjustments before the conversion.

For example, you can edit each file’s metadata information: title, track artist, album artist, composer, album, year, etc., add or change lyrics, insert album art and inspect the details about the selected file. What’s great is that you can edit this information in multiple files at once.

A multitude of settings are available in the Preferences window, which is separated into general, metadata, album art, iTunes, queue and error log tabs. You can choose to overwrite or delete original files after encoding, toggle advanced metadata options or choose to send the converted files to iTunes.

On the whole, MP3 Encoder is not a revolutionary Mac OS app for converting files to MP3, but it definitely stands out from the rest through its collection of features and intuitive workflow. Some highlights include the intuitive main window, extensive media file support and metadata editing.
