The transition to remote work isn’t easy for everybody, which is why many people are looking for ways to improve communication with team members.

TeamSpirit is a relatively simple app that could prove handy when it comes to managing calls and ensuring time isn’t wasted. In addition to tracking any call’s duration automatically, it provides useful statistics that can help you communicate more effectively.

Automatically tack video and voice calls

If it is configured to do so, TeamSpirit will begin tracking the duration of calls as soon as your Mac’s microphone is activated, requiring no additional input on your part. An overlay will be displayed on your screen, on top of all other windows.

From this overlay, you can keep an eye on how long the call has been in progress, as well as your talking/listening ratio and your total spoken words per minute.

Make sure everyone else gets their say

It’s easy to take over a conversation if you’re discussing something you know a lot about, but it’s important to give everyone else a chance to contribute as well. TeamSpirit keeps track of how much of the conversation has consisted of you talking, and if the speaking/listening ratio is above a certain value, it will notify you.

You can customize the ratio that will trigger a warning, and these stats are recorded for all calls, giving you an average, maximum, and minimum talking ratio that can be viewed from the menu bar.

A few issues I ran into

The app worked quite well for the most part, but I h ad some trouble getting the talking ratio notification to show up, and the statistics in the call history section didn’t seem to show the correct maximum WPM value.

Overall, TeamSpirit has the potential to be very useful if you spend a lot of time in video calls, but it definitely won’t make a huge difference. The free version includes pretty much all of the app’s features, which is nice, but a few bugs still need fixing.
