Create 2D animations via a highly customizable graphical user interface, without having to write code, or worry about anything else except design
Tupi is an open source project that aims to provide a user-friendly workspace for designing 2D animation projects with ease. The utility has been written in C++ and is making use of the Qt library.
Versatile animation tool that comes with a personalizable design
Tupi features a modular user interface, which means that you get to organize the toolbars and settings panels any way you like around the canvas area. Just drag and drop the respective panels around the Tupi main window, and the app automatically integrates them in different locations.
Moreover, Tupi separates the editing and preview tools in two different tabs, while also enabling you to keep track of the latest project news. Worth mentioning is that Tupi comes with a media library panel where you can easily import the image, SVG, or sound files you want to include in your projects.
Create beautiful animations by working on each separate frame
The Tupi animations are based on various scenes, and each scene can have an unlimited number of frames. Tupi integrates both a scenes manager and an exposure sheet that helps you keep track of each frame.
As far as editing tools go, Tupi brings to the table elementary drawing capabilities, a limited number of objects, and rotation or scaling functions. In addition, Tupi can grab content using your iSight camera, can work with lipsync files, and helps you create a storyboard for your animation.
Preview animations and export them to video or image sequence files
Within the Tupi Player tab, you get to preview any scene included in your project and adjust the frames per second speed. The result can be exported to QuickTime compatible video formats, or to sequence files that use popular image formats, such as PNG, JPG, or SVG.
Tupi does not aim to be a replacement software for more sophisticated animation suites, but it has everything you need to start designing 2D animations. The app features a user-friendly workspace and does not require any programming knowledge.
