You’ve probably come across several browsers that say they are based on Chromium and you must be wondering what it is. Well it’s mostly open source project, the end product of which is Google Chrome… However, it is a fully functional browser that you can download and use to access any website.

Chromium vs Chrome: what are the differences?

There are some differences between this web browser and the latest version of Chrome

… Here are some of the ones that you can find in the google web browser but are not present in Chromium:

• Google Chrome update system.
• Integration with Adobe Flash Player with proprietary code and license.
• PDF reader.
• H.264, AAC and MP3 compatible multimedia codecs.
• A restriction that disables extensions not hosted in the Chrome Web Store.
• Registered trademarks of Google and Chrome.
• The ability to send usage statistics to Google from the browser.

Although both browsers are based on the same code, the final stable release is the one that you can download from Google servers. Last used by other developers to build other browsers or people who need to use open source software so they don’t have to pay any licenses, as is the case with Linux, where we can find distributions that use Chromium… So, as you can imagine, we cannot say which one is better … it will all depend on how you are going to use them.
