Tuesday, May 12, the Ministry of Health announced that more than 224,262 tests of Covid-19 – or 3,900 tests per hundred thousand people – so far they have been carried out in Singapore.
It is one of the highest test rates in the world, but Singapore wants to increase its Covid-19 testing capacity to 40,000 a day later this year.
To facilitate this, a recruitment campaign has been launched to recruit swab testers to perform these tests.
Those hired as assistant swabs will earn a monthly salary of 3,400 Singaporean dollars, while those who become "swabs" will earn $ 3,800 per month.
More tests to be done in Singapore
Singapore aims to filter the entire population of 320,000 migrant workers in dormitories to ensure that workers are well and can return to work safely when their areas are gradually reopened.
National Development Minister Lawrence Wong previously said that preschoolers, nursing homes and front-line medical workers are also among the top priorities for regular testing.
All preschool staff it will also be tested in Singapore starting today (May 15). The test, which is a precautionary measure, would cover principals, teachers and educators, as well as those caring for babies and young children.
What should a swab tester do?
Individuals will begin as swab assistants where they must undergo on-the-job training and assessment before becoming "swabs".
They will also have to work six rotating days per week over a period of six months, with the possibility of extending it for an additional three months.
