EU airlines' CO2 regime to remain in place after United Nations program

Flights between EU states will continue to be subject to the EU Emission Trading Scheme (ETS), which requires them to purchase EU permits CO2 emissions after the launch by the UN of a similar but global system called Corsica in 2021, European Transport Commissioner Adina Valean announced on Monday. The UN wanted to have a carbon offset system unique in the world. But Corsica "will not replace ETS. It will complement ETS," said Valean.
