The Adobe Camera Raw plug-in has become a must-have tool for professional photographers since its launch. By working with these raw “digital negatives” you can achieve the results you want with greater artistic control and flexibility while still maintaining the original files. This powerful plug-in has been updated frequently to support more cameras and include more features and is available as part of Adobe Photoshop. Adobe Lightroom is built on the same powerful raw processing technology available in the Camera Raw plug-in.

The Camera Raw plug-in also supports raw files in Digital Negative (DNG) format. Learn more about the benefits of DNG, a raw file format made available to the public by Adobe.

Instructions for use:

Windows

1. Quit your Adobe applications.
2. Double-click the downloaded .exe file to start the installer.
3. Follow the instructions on the screen.
4. Restart the Adobe applications.

Mac us

1. Close all Adobe applications.
2. Double-click the .dmg file to extract it.
3. Double-click the resulting file to start the installer.
4. Follow the instructions on the screen.
5. Restart the Adobe applications.

Note:

Improved GPU support for accelerated image editing

GPU acceleration speeds up image processing most noticeably for images with multiple adjustments and for high-resolution displays (4K and higher). You can enable the new GPU acceleration features on supported systems in the Performance tab of Camera Raw settings. On some computers, the function is activated automatically. Edge-aware editing in 360-degree panoramic images

Previously, when making adjustments to a 360-degree panorama, it could result in a seam around the merged edges, especially if you were editing Clarity or Dehaze. Starting with this release, you can make seamless edits to 360-degree panoramas, even when adjusting Clarity or Dehaze. This feature is not currently supported in the Camera Raw filter in Photoshop.

Use Enhance Details

Follow these steps to apply Enhance Details to your photo:

1. Open a supported image in Camera Raw.
2. Click the () icon in the filmstrip and select Enhance Details from the context menu.
3. The Enhance Details Preview dialog gives you a preview of the enhanced image. You can click and hold on the preview to see the image without the feature applied. You can pan the preview window or click on the main image to change the preview area.
4. Click Enhance to create an enhanced DNG version of your image.

Bypass the Enhance Details dialog box

You can skip the Enhance Details preview dialog by holding down the Option (macOS)/Alt (Win) key when selecting the Enhance Details pop-up menu.

Batch mode

You can use the Enhance Details feature on multiple photos. To do this, select multiple supported images and click the () icon in the filmstrip and select Enhance Details. You cannot see the Enhance Details preview dialog when selecting multiple images for batch processing.

Supported image formats

Enhance Details only applies to Bayer and X-Trans mosaic raw files.

Unsupported file formats

Enhance Details does not apply to the following types of source images:

• Non-raw files such as JPEGs, TIFFs and HEICs
• Linear DNGs (including HDR and panoramic DNG images previously created in Lightroom and Camera Raw)
• DNG proxies and smart previews
• Monochrome raw files (like Leica M MONOCHROM)
• Four-color cameras
• Foveon sensor images
• Fujifilm cameras with SR, EXR or 2×4 mosaic sensors.
• Canon S-RAW/M-RAW files
• Nikon small raw files
• Pentax Pixel Shift Resolution (PSR) files
• Sony ARQ files

What is new

• Use the latest masking panel to easily edit specific areas just the way you want. Access the color, luminance, and depth range tools along with brush, linear, and radial gradient tools.

Automatically select a subject or sky and make changes

• Now easily select a person, animal or thing on your photo with just one click. You can also quickly select the sky and make changes only in the selection. Find these advanced tools and more in the new masking panel.

Explore new Premium Presets and the Preset Amount slider

• The Premium Presets panel now includes new categories such as food, urban architecture and more. You can also adjust the intensity of a preset being used using the new preset amount slider (this is currently a beta feature).
