This app serves as a valuable companion to the board game “Alchemists” by Czech Games Edition. It facilitates the scanning of ingredient cards from the physical game, helping players figure out what potions they can make.

Within the “realm of the alchemists”, two to four aspiring alchemists engage in a quest to reveal the mysteries of their arcane craft. Points can be accumulated through various endeavors, with a significant portion dependent on the publication of accurate theories, which presents a formidable challenge.

The game unfolds over six rounds, with players deciding their order of play at the start of each round. Choosing a later turn means greater rewards.

Players articulate their actions by strategically placing cubes on distinct action spaces, followed by sequential assessment of each space. Advancing their knowledge involves mixing ingredients and performing experiments using a smartphone application (available on iOS, Android and Windows), which introduces new alchemy rules for each game iteration. As an added enhancement, players have the option of acquiring magical items to increase their stakes. These items, which number nine and vary in each game, have considerable power but cost a lot. Nevertheless, when academic prestige is at stake, monetary concerns diminish in importance. Owning these artifacts not only increases gameplay, but also raises one’s standing in the alchemical community.

Players can increase their income by selling potions of dubious quality to adventurers; but monetary gains are only a means to an end. Indeed, the alchemists’ primary ambition transcends material wealth; their pursuit centers on garnering respect, usually achieved through the dissemination of cutting-edge theories.

Throughout the gameplay, the players’ reputation fluctuates. After six rounds culminating in a final showdown, reputation is transformed into points. Points are also awarded for items and secured grants. The resolution witnesses the revelation of alchemical secrets, with players either gaining or losing points depending on the truth of their theories. The winner is claimed by the person who comes out with the highest total score.
