This isn’t the first, and definitely won’t be the last, an app designed to keep your Mac awake when you’re working. It’s not a game-changer by any means, but it does provide a good alternative to existing options.

Essentially, Caffeinated Lets you disable the macOS sleep feature temporarily or indefinitely with a single click at any given time. It’s far more convenient than modifying your energy saver settings, as it’s directly accessible from the menu bar.

Keep your Mac awake and block screensavers

Of course, you can configure your computer to go into sleep mode, or at least turn off the display after a period of inactivity. But what if you want to keep your Mac awake for certain tasks without modifying your energy saver settings, and you’re happy with it the rest of the time?

Well, Caffeinated allows you to disable your computer’s sleep function for 5 minutes to 12 hours, or even indefinitely. All you have to do is click the menu bar icon or select your preferred duration from the drop-down menu.

Last but not least, all screensavers will be blocked while the app is active to prevent any undue interruptions when you have important work to do.

Is it better than the competition?

As you probably know, there are many apps that offer similar functionality. So, since most caffeine is also free, how is caffeine better than any of them?

Well, this app has something to do. It has a modern, lightweight and very intuitive design and cannot be said to be a replacement for everything. It can be enabled or disabled by simply clicking on the menu bar icon, and there are two icon styles to choose from.

In terms of functionality, the app can put your display to sleep while keeping your Mac awake, which many similar apps can’t do. It can also show a notification when the timer runs out and sleep mode is enabled again, which should help you avoid unexpected power outages or screensavers.

As far as I know, there are no downsides to being caffeinated. It works very well for me, it offers almost every feature I can get from an app like this. It’s intuitive and highly configurable so you can’t really go wrong.
