The macOS Contacts app definitely needs an upgrade. This is pretty basic, and if you have multiple entries, managing your contacts can become very difficult. Until Apple decides to improve it, a third-party alternative will have to be used.

Find contacts and trigger actions with simple commands

“Command” is probably the wrong term, since you basically just have to type whatever you want to do. Write down the contact’s name and the program will display all matching entries. Write an action like “Call John” and the app will bring up the contacts with a button to call them immediately.

You can do so much more, and the best part is that you don’t even have to remember them. Just start typing and the app will figure out what you want. For example, if no contacts are found, it will start auto-filling new entries, allowing you to add them without additional steps.

Once you use the macOS or iOS version of the app, you can easily get the hang of all the other apps. They are more or less the same, and your contacts are automatically synced.

Widgets, shortcuts and fantastic integrations

You can create widgets for frequently used actions and add them to the notification center or home screen, and Cardhop also provides full support for the Shorcuts app, allowing you to automate actions or make them more convenient.

If you use Fantastical, then it makes more sense to catch Cardhop. You can create meetings directly from your contact list, as well as perform various other group actions.
