Carla is a macOS audio plug-in host with a sleek design and support for some of the most widely used audio plug-in file formats. The application provides access to various sound libraries (GIG, SF2 and SFZ) and supports several sound engine modes.

Finding your way in Carla is easy thanks to its well-organized user interface: you can browse your disk for audio files, and quickly load and configure audio plugins in the canvas area.

By default, Carla comes with a dark interface theme, but you can quickly switch to the system palette through the app’s preferences window. The same area enables you to customize the appearance of the canvas, change the default library paths, or adjust details related to the sound engine.

Furthermore, Carla offers you the possibility to browse through the collection of installed audio plugins and quickly load any of them into your engine. For your convenience, Carla comes with a simple plug-in repository search tool, and also allows you to apply specific filters.

Use popular audio plug-in formats and drivers

Carla is able to load various audio plug-in formats such as AU, LV2, VST2, VST3, DSSI or LADSPA. Additionally, it comes with native audio drivers: ASIO, JACK, CoreAudio, DirectSound or ALSA.

For rendering audio effects, Carla uses the Rack and Patchbay engine modes and integrates single-client and multi-client support when you use the JACK audio driver.

It’s worth mentioning that Carla has an integrated MIDI file player with full OSC control for automatic handling of plug-in parameters.
