Search for to-do apps and you’ll quickly find thousands. The web is littered with them, but many have two major problems: they’re bloated, and they’re not free.

Check menu If you’re looking for a simple, free to-do manager, this is just what you need. It only runs in the menu bar, showing your tasks in a simple menu and allowing you to track them at a glance without even opening said menu.

CheckMenu takes you directly to the menu bar when you launch it. Open it, click Edit, and start adding tasks one by one. The interface is minimalist and not flashy at all, but it gets the job done.

In this window, you can add new tasks, clear the list, or check off completed tasks. You can also delete individual items. However, if the task name is long, it may not be displayed completely, but you will see the full text in the menu bar.

Once all tasks are added, you can manage everything directly from the menu bar. This icon shows the total number of tasks you’ve completed, so you can see your progress at a glance.

Once you’ve completed a task, simply click on it in the drop-down menu to mark it as completed. There is only one list, making the workflow very simple. This app is best suited for daily to-do lists rather than long-term projects.

CheckMenu is an app that I recommend for personal use or professionals who just need a basic to-do list manager to complete their daily tasks. It lacks the functionality to handle more complex things, but not everyone needs their software to do a million different things.
