The macOS clipboard is so limited that the secondary clipboard isn’t even worth mentioning. If you want to expand the capabilities of the clipboard and access multiple copied items, you’ll have to get a third-party app.

no copy This is a great option if you decide you need something more. It provides you with a history of clipboard items that you can access and paste anytime anywhere, shortcuts, favorites, iCloud syncing, and more. It includes a paid tier, but the free version is more than enough for most users.

Supersize your clipboard

Anything you send to the clipboard is stored while the app is running, whether it’s text, a file, or an image. The project limit in the free version is quite reasonable, up to 1000 in CopyLess Pro, which is far more than you’re likely to need.

If you need to paste something you copied at some point, just open the app and find the item. You can use the search function, favorites, and even create shortcuts to things you need often. Copy them from this list as usual, or use a hotkey to send them to the clipboard. Quick Look also allows you to preview items.

Direct paste, plain text, and serial copy-paste

Direct Paste allows you to instantly paste something into the last active application by double-clicking it in the main window or using its assigned hotkey.

When enabled, the Plain Text feature strips all text formatting when copying. There’s usually little reason to keep formatting, but you can still turn it off if you want.

A really cool feature lets you copy multiple things to the clipboard and then paste them one after the other in the same order. This can be very useful, for example, for filling out forms or extracting paragraphs from larger text.

CopyLess can easily be recommended as a macOS clipboard extender. It has many features, lots of room for customization, iCloud sync and an intuitive interface. The free version should be enough for most people, while the pro version is very cheap and available as a one-time purchase.
