Disk space is a limited resource, so to make the most of it, you have to make sure you don’t store unnecessary files, especially large files. Disk mapping is a fast macOS application that can scan any folder and quickly generate a navigable treemap.

To start using the disk mapping application, you must use the Finder menu to direct the application to a specific folder, or simply drag and drop a directory to the top of the application’s main window.

Disk Mapping allows you to start a scan and once the process is over, it will display the number of files analyzed and their total size. The application is capable of scanning content stored on internal and external drives.

To eliminate irrelevant data, disk mapping allows you to visualize only files above a certain size. Users can adjust the minimum file size through the application’s preferences (the default exclusion rule is set to 50Kb).

Based on the available data, Disk Map generates a treemap display that helps you see the largest subfolders and contained files. When working with a large number of fairly small files, disk mapping groups them together.

Disk mapping enables you to view the full paths to specific files, and you can choose to view them in Finder or preview their contents using the QuickLook feature. To help you gain more space, disk mapping can delete or compress files.

In the Disk Map tree view you can detect the files taking up the most space and act accordingly: delete them if you no longer need them, add them to the ignore list if you want to keep them, or Compress them to get more space.

To make your job easier, Disk Mapping can ignore very small files, or toggle the visibility of hidden or system files. Additionally, disk mapping can keep files for deletion in a queue to ensure you don’t delete them by mistake.
