lemur is a cross-platform client for Lemmy (with custom apps for Android, Linux and Windows).

For those who haven’t heard of Lemmy, it’s part syndicated Reddit alternative/part link, aggregator. This is a very similar platform to Reddit. Lobste.rs and Hacker News.

The main goal of the platform is to create a self-hosted, decentralized universe that works in the same way as Reddit and other such platforms.

Simple but powerful GUI

The client itself won’t win any awards for looks, but it does allow you to view posts. Posts can be filtered from the top left corner based on various criteria (active, trending, new, trending days, trending weeks, trending months, trending years, most comments, new comments, etc.).

Even though you can use lemmur without a Lemmy account, you won’t get the full functionality of the platform. A Lemmy account is required for further sorting of posts, as well as comments, upvotes, downvotes, and other actions.

Once logged in, you can start taking advantage of everything Lemmy and lemmur have to offer. You can manage your account, you can perform complex searches, you can selectively filter posts, and publish new posts yourself, and that’s it.

in conclusion

While the interface may be similar to other news/link aggregators like Reddit, Lemmy is quite different. Any user can run servers, all federated and connected through a service called Fediverse.

lemmur helps you to subscribe to forums on all the above servers and you can even discuss with users registered on other platforms.

Although lemmur is designed primarily as a mobile client, it also works well on Windows.
