Inspired by Postman, milkman is a lightweight and very functional JavaFX-based application designed to provide web developers with a faster way to create API test cases.

Since it’s inspired by Postman, it’s no surprise that the tool offers a similar set of features, although it’s definitely not as feature-rich as Postman. For example, Milkman allows you to send a request to a web server and get a response.

Developers can create any number of test cases that can be easily managed. In addition, users can create and manage collections (workspaces) of integration test cases. Like Postman, Milkman is basically a plugin wrapped in a more extensible and faster application.

In its current form, the application does not require installation and can be run directly after unpacking its archive. Right off the bat, it’s clear that this application is simpler than Postman. Once launched, developers are greeted with a compact main window with a modern GUI. In the upper part of the main window, users can create new workspaces or switch between existing workspaces, import projects (from Postman), and select or switch between environments.

The application also has an options menu that offers the user the possibility to choose between two GUI themes and to turn the code editor/viewer on or off. Developers can also use proxies and even add IPs to a simple ignore list.

All in all, the Milkman doesn’t impress when it comes to features. However, it should be taken into account that the application is designed to be as simple and fast as possible. The developers of the project itself describe it as a “jump in and do something, and leave” type of application.
