Firmware Upgrade Instructions

– NOTE: To avoid wireless disconnection issues during firmware downloads, NETGEAR recommends performing firmware upgrades on a computer with a wired connection.
– Make a note of any settings changed from defaults, as you may need to re-enter them manually.
– Download the new firmware and unzip it somewhere convenient, such as your desktop.
– Log in to the router using a web browser.
– Click the Advanced tab > Administration > Firmware Upgrade.
– Click Browse and locate the file you just downloaded.
– Click Upload. Do not interrupt the upgrade while the router is doing this step.

Important note:

– When the progress bar on the screen is complete, the upgrade process is complete. If the Power LED turns amber and blinks, restart the router to complete the upgrade.
– If the upgrade progress bar on the web GUI is not displayed correctly during the firmware upgrade, you can still check the status using the power LED. The power LED should blink (amber) during the firmware upgrade. It turns solid amber when the firmware upgrade is complete and the system boots.
– Please do not power off or restart the device during the firmware upgrade, otherwise it may cause firmware corruption and cause the device not to work.

About router firmware:

Before you consider downloading this firmware, go to your router’s system information page and make sure that the currently installed version is neither newer nor matches this version.

Due to the variety of router models and device upgrade methods, it is strongly recommended that you read and most importantly understand the installation steps before applying new firmware, even if you are an advanced user.

In theory, these steps shouldn’t be too much of a hassle for anyone, as manufacturers try to make them easy, even if they don’t always succeed. Basically, you have to upload new firmware to the router and allow it to upgrade via its admin page.

If you install the new version, you can expect a higher level of security, fixes for different vulnerabilities, improved overall performance and transfer speed, enhanced compatibility with other devices, added support for newly developed technologies, and several other changes.

If you’re looking for some measure of security, remember it’s best to perform uploads using an Ethernet cable rather than a wireless connection, which can easily be interrupted. Also, make sure not to power off the router or use its buttons during the installation process if you wish to avoid any glitches.

If this firmware meets your current needs, obtain the required version and apply it to your router unit; if not, please visit our website as often as possible so as not to miss updates that may improve your device.

It is strongly recommended to always use the latest driver version available.

Try setting a system restore point before installing the device driver. This will help if you have incorrect or mismatched drivers installed. Problems can arise when your hardware device is too old or no longer supported.
