Firmware Upgrade Instructions
– NOTE: To avoid wireless disconnect issues during firmware download, NETGEAR recommends performing the firmware upgrade on a wired connected computer.
– Make a note of any settings changed from the defaults, as you may need to re-enter them manually.
– Download and extract the new firmware to a convenient place like your desktop.
– Log in to the router using a web browser.
– Click the Advanced tab > Administration > Firmware Upgrade.
– Click Browse and locate the file you just downloaded.
– Click Upload. Do not interrupt the upgrade while the router is performing this step.
Important note:
– When the progress bar on the screen is complete, the upgrade process is complete. If the power LED light turns amber and blinks, restart the router to complete the upgrade.
– If the upgrade progress bar on the Web GUI is not displayed correctly during the firmware upgrade process, you can still use the power LED to check the status. During the firmware upgrade, the power LED should flash (amber). It turns solid amber when the firmware upgrade is complete and the system boots.
– Please do not power off or restart the device during the firmware upgrade process, otherwise the firmware may be damaged and the device cannot work.
About router firmware:
Before considering downloading this firmware, go to your router’s system information page and make sure the currently installed version is not newer or matches this version.
Due to the wide variety of router models and different methods of device upgrades, it is highly recommended that you read and most importantly understand the installation steps before applying new firmware, even if you are an advanced user.
In theory, these steps shouldn’t be a hassle for anyone, as manufacturers try to make them as simple as possible, even if they don’t always work out. Basically, you have to upload the new firmware to the router via its management page and allow it to upgrade.
If you install a new version, you can expect improved security levels, different bug fixes, improved overall performance and transfer speeds, enhanced compatibility with other devices, added support for newly developed technologies, and several other changes.
If you’re looking for some safety precautions, keep in mind that it’s best to use an ethernet cable rather than a wireless connection to perform uploads, as wireless connections can easily be interrupted. Also, if you want to avoid any glitches, make sure you don’t turn off the router or use its buttons during installation.
If this firmware meets your current needs, get the version you want and apply it to your router unit; if not, visit our website as often as possible to avoid missing updates that improve your device.
It is strongly recommended to always use the latest driver version available.
Try setting a system restore point before installing device drivers. This will help if you have incorrect or mismatched drivers installed. Problems can arise when your hardware device is too old or no longer supported.
