important Notice:
– InControl must be enabled on PrimeCare devices to update software features such as SpeedFusion (bonding, WAN smoothing, hot failover).
– Further major firmware updates will not support Balance 20 hardware revisions 1-6. They will receive firmware 8.1.x maintenance releases as needed.
– PepVPN backward compatibility option is no longer available. By deprecating older firmware versions, we now have a more secure handshake channel as the default, accepting only TLS 1.2 and no longer accepting TLS 1.0 and 1.1 for older devices. Therefore, if you are using devices running firmware 6.1 or earlier, you will no longer be able to form PepVPN tunnels with these devices unless the firmware is updated.
About router firmware:
Before considering downloading this firmware, go to your router’s system information page and make sure that the currently installed version is not a newer version or matches this version.
Due to the wide variety of router models and different methods of device upgrades, it is highly recommended that you read and most importantly understand the installation steps before applying new firmware, even if you are an advanced user.
In theory, these steps shouldn’t be a hassle for anyone, as manufacturers try to make them as simple as possible, even if they don’t always work out. Basically, you have to upload the new firmware to the router via its management page and allow it to upgrade.
If you install the new version, you can expect a higher level of security, different bug fixes, improved overall performance and transfer speeds, enhanced compatibility with other devices, added support for newly developed technologies, and several other changes.
If you’re looking for some safety precautions, keep in mind that it’s best to use an ethernet cable rather than a wireless connection to perform the upload, as wireless connections can easily be interrupted. Also, if you want to avoid any glitches, make sure you don’t turn off the router or use its buttons during installation.
If this firmware meets your current needs, get the version you want and apply it to your router unit; if not, visit our website as often as possible to avoid missing updates that improve your device.
