Extensible framework for accepting new tests

The Phoronix Test Suite provides an extensible testing framework with more than 650 tests because it integrates seamlessly with the OpenBenchmarking.org platform, which essentially acts as a repository for test suites and configuration files. Its test architecture allows to enrich the current suite with new test configuration files, which are provided as shell scripts or XML files.

Tests run through the Phoronix test suite can generate both quantitative and qualitative results. In other words, you can run comparison tests, pass or fail tests, and more. In addition, the suite can collect a range of detailed information about the computer being analyzed. For example, you can check the status of power consumption, disk and memory usage, or other hardware sensors. In fact, you can try one command (phoronix-test-suite benchmark c-ray) to collect detailed hardware and software information, as well as system logs and reports. All of this data can be easily uploaded to OpenBenchmarking.org to compare parameters with results from other computers with similar configurations.

There are some PHP extensions, although not mandatory, that are recommended for extended functionality in the Phoronix test suite. All of these are mentioned when accessing the “-help” command.

On startup, Phoronix Test Suite installs Cygwin, since it requires the Bash interpreter, and then displays all available commands and options. You can easily install tests and dependencies, get system information and details about system properties and sensors. Phoronix test suite supports batch and automated testing.
