The tool is a general and intuitive program; therefore, for each of the three main development steps, you will find corresponding commands such as waypoint building, waypoint deploymentand waypoint release. However, the program also allows to customize your commands.

During the build process, Waypoint accepts builds and converts them into artifacts (e.g. container images, VM images, etc.). An artifact is a packaged form of a utility that will be further deployed on the platform of your choice.

During the actual deployment phase, the prebuilt artifacts will be staged on the specified development platform and will be made available through a uniquely generated deployment URL. Finally, in the final step, release, the previously staged and tested product is released to the public.

Waypoint helps you follow specific workflows and stay organized. When developing modern applications and/or working in large teams of individuals, things can get messy; therefore, organizational and planning steps must never be overlooked.

The application supports multiple methods and platforms, and can be integrated and adapted to different needs through native integrations or plugins with Cloud Native Buildpacks, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS EC2 and ECS, Azure Container Instances, Google Cloud Run, Netlify, and more.
