Windows has a built-in file search function, which has been improved over the years with the latest iteration of the operating system. In Windows 10, you only need to start typing in the “Start” menu, and the matching results will be displayed, whether from a local PC or the cloud. However, Windows Search has its disadvantages. Provide portable archives and classic executable files
First of all, you should know that WizFile has two styles: executable files that need to be installed and portable archive files. The latter allows you to run WizFile without going through the setup process.
Show search results as you type
WizFile has a simple interface layout and is very easy to use. There is a dedicated field for entering keywords to search, and options for matching file names or entire file paths. By default, WizFile is configured to ask all NTFS drives on the PC, but you can change this setting as needed.
The results will be displayed as you type-you should notice that the list is updated in real time, and your keywords are highlighted in the file name and path. In addition to the file name and location, WizFile also displays the file size, timestamp, and special attributes.
The time required to complete the search does not exceed two or three seconds, but this speed comes at a price: the application requires a considerable amount of RAM memory.
Active monitoring and additional file manipulation tools
Support wildcards. You can use an asterisk to replace one or more characters, and a question mark to match a single character. In addition, WizFile can recognize multiple search terms: spaces are like logical “AND” operators, while vertical pipes are used as “OR” operators. With these options, you can build more complex search expressions and reduce the number of matches. On the downside, regular expressions are not supported.
It is worth mentioning that WizFile actively monitors the hard disk and updates the search results when changes occur.
Other options enable you to quickly open the folder where the file is located, launch a command prompt, copy the path of the file, and delete or erase the file or folder.
Fast and intuitive search tool
Due to direct query of the Master File Table, WizFile is fast, which is its biggest feature. All its data is stored in memory, which makes it possible to execute search queries faster than other tools, but the cost is obvious. Although the search function is powerful, it does not support regular expression filtering and content search.
