While there are ways to reduce tracking on the web, such as using certain extensions and using a privacy-focused browser, this can be too much of a headache for many users.

anti-spyware is a very simple solution to online tracking, advertising and malware. It operates system-wide and monitors all DPS lookup requests from any application or browser, blocking those known to involve trackers, malware, or phishing domains.

The application installs a system extension that enables it to monitor all DPS lookup requests, regardless of where they originate. All this processing is done locally using a database stored on your Mac. You will be able to see how many requests have been blocked in the main application window.

iAntiSpy logs all blocked requests, showing you the domain and which application the request came from. You can allow requests that you know are safe. The list will be cleared when you close the application.

It’s worth noting that if your browser uses DNS over HTTPS (DoH), iAntiSpy will not be able to view DNS lookups and will not be able to block malicious lookups. In these cases, you’ll have to rely on browsers and extensions to deal with trackers, ads, or malware. It’s worth noting that Safari is one of the few major browsers that lacks this feature.

iAntiSpy can be very helpful if your browser does not support DoH, or the feature is disabled, and it also works with non-browsing applications that cannot be easily protected through extensions or privacy settings.

As far as ads go, many of them will be blocked, but only for their content. Unlike some popular ad blocking extensions, this app cannot prevent empty ad blocks from taking up space on the page.

If you choose the Enhanced Protection subscription, you will get daily database updates instead of monthly updates. While regular updates aren’t as important as antivirus software, more frequent updates are still better.

The paid version blocks phishing and scam sites, and you can choose to encrypt DNS traffic. Unfortunately, this means that free users cannot access DoH at all, as the feature needs to be disabled in the browser for iAntiSpy to access requests.

This app does a great job as a system-wide privacy protector, and being able to view and analyze blocked requests is eye-opening. The biggest drawback, however, is that you need to subscribe to Enhanced Protection to take advantage of DNS over HTTPS, which makes the free version less attractive than a browser with DoH and blocking tracker and ad extensions.
